New Semester

As we enter a new semester of school, whether it be middle school, high school, or college, I want to encourage all of you to remember something. I know that once we get back into the swing of school and life gets crazy with assignments, papers and projects due, it's easy to lose focus of the most important thing in life.

The bible tells us to be heavenly minded, not earthly minded. Colossians 3:2: "Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth."Though school may seem all important right now, we need to keep our focus on heavenly things--on God's plan and purpose.

I think Paul understood this "earthly tendency" when he wrote this verse. Notice he wrote "Set your mind..." This implies that it is a conscious choice you have to make. Our minds naturally tend to focus on what's immediately in front us. For us that is the upcoming test we may have, social pressures, and academic anxiety. But Paul gives us this verse for a reason. When we place our focus on Christ, it puts the rest of our lives in perspective, and it honors God.

So this semester, let's all set our minds on things above!
